The five-year survival rate for early invasive cancer of the cervix is 92 percent. The overall five-year survival rate (for all stages combined) is about 73 percent. For pre-invasive cervical cancer, the five-year survival rate is nearly 100 percent.

TIME.com: Are doctors screening for cervical cancer too often?
Though current cervical cancer screening guidelines generally recommend that women ages 30 and older get screened — either using a traditional pap smear or a complement of a pap smear and human papillomavirus testing — every 2 to 3 years instead of annually, a new survey published this week in the Archives of Internal Medicine finds that most physicians recommend screening far more frequently.

In August of 2007 Tia was diagnosed with Stage IV advanced cervical cancer at the age of 27. For years Tia was told she was suffering from benign fibroid tumors.
